See replies #59 and #64. There are now four stories accepted for FurPlanet’s The Furry Future; from M.C. A. Hogarth, David Hopkins, Watts Martin, and Michael Payne. Plus several proposals, but they’re aren’t definite until the finished story is accepted.
The two deadlines have confused several people. If you plan to submit a story, please let me know by November 1st so we can discuss it if necessary, and I know to expect it. Try to submit the finished story a little before December 1st, so I have time to edit it, if necessary. The final deadline is December 1st. I have to send all accepted submissions to FurPlanet in Dallas then; so they can lay out the book, return everything to me for proofreading and corrections, and have the final book printed in time to go on sale at Further Confusion 2015 in January. I have heard that some writers who have not contacted me at all yet intend to submit their finished stories to me on December 1st. I will TRY to consider them, but the more likely answer will be, “Sorry; you’re too late.”
It’s unusual for a market to have two deadlines, so the confusion’s understandable. Thanks for clarifying.
For the record, I have every intention of submitting a story in for this. I am aiming to have the full thing written by October 31st so that any editing you see is needed can be fulfilled. If nothing else though, I will at least send you what I have and, if you wish it, keep you updated with any significant progresses made along the way.
Diabolical Plots is opening to sf/f fiction subs for the first time during December. Max 2000 words, 1 submission per author, pro rates, and they do mention talking animals in their guidelines, along with everything else.
O.O 6 cents per word?
2000 word max.
Sci-fi, fantasy, ~or~ horror.
Of course just as I was planning on no more anthos after FF, this pops up. Might have to go back on that plan.
See posts #59, #64, and #81. There are now nine stories accepted for “The Furry Future”, for about 98,000 words of FurPlanet’s requested 120,000 word minimum. I know that there are several more outstanding whose authors have promised to finish and send them in during November.
The first deadline of November 1st is almost here. I do not need finished stories by then, but if you plan to submit a story before the final deadline of December 1st, please send me an e-mail and let me know so I can expect it. FurPlanet wants me to close out the anthology on December 1st and send in everything to Dallas so it can begin laying out and typesetting the book. I would hate to have to reject any surprises sent to me on December 1st as too late to be edited, which includes my writing an Introduction to each story. That’s fredpatten@earthlink.net.
After some very careful consideration, I decided I won’t be submitting BahD. There are a few different reasons, but there’s one that’s more important than any other. I had started this story as a second entry for Furtural Horizons last year. When the story arc began to deterioate right from beneath me as I was typing it, I decided to shelve it. I felt that I had something truly special on my hands that deserved more time, effort, and focus. Yet now here I am, rushing to assemble what of the storyline I can, trying to keep it smashed down from taking on a life of its own, doing the very thing I told myself I wouldn’t to this spark.
I want to spend more time on this baby. I want to see if it’ll grow, and maybe even be my first novella ever. Even if it decides it needs to remain a nice compact short story, I somehow doubt this will be the last sci-fi antho to be published in the near future. So while I thank you for this opportunity, I apologize that I won’t be able to take advantage of it in good conscious.
I’m quite looking forward to submitting to this
To Munchkin: yes! If your story will be improved by making it too long for “The Furry Future”, please take that extra time and length to develop it further. We’ll all enjoy it more, reading it elsewhere. Good luck!
Fictionvale’s next issue (deadline Dec 1) is open to all genres (and combinations of genres):

(Be aware that this is a very hands-on market when it comes to editing; they scrutinize every sentence when they’re suggesting changes. That said, in my experience with “The Claw in Her Heart,” they were good to work with, the edits improved the story, and they were certainly willing to be flexible when I had a reason to want something a particular way.)
See posts #59, #64, #81, and #86. The first deadline for “The Furry Future” has passed, and the anthology is a success! FurPlanet Productions asked for a book of between 120,000 and 150,000 words. We have 15 completed stories accepted so far, for 138,195 words, with several accepted plot outlines still to be written during November. I have asked FurPlanet how many words beyond 150,000 we can accept. Look for it at Further Confusion 2015 in mid-January, or on the FurPlanet catalogue afterwards.
150,000 words is about the limit for a $19.95 book. Out of curiosity, how many of you would pay more than $19.95 for a thicker book?
We have authors from Australia, Canada, England, Germany, and of course the U.S.A. Is this a record for a furry anthology?
See posts #59, #64, #81, #86, and #91. “The Furry Future” has gone over 150,000 words, and FurPlanet has just approved its extension to 175,000 words. Still, it is expected to fill up before the December 1st deadline. So if you expect to submit a story for it and you haven’t notified me yet, you had better do so really quickly.
See posts #59, #64, #81, #86, #91, and #92. It is with both pride and embarrassment that I announce that “The Furry Future” has filled up much sooner than FurPlanet or I expected. The original maximum word limit was 150,000 words; FurPlanet increased that to 175,000 words; and that has just been exceeded. FurPlanet can’t make the anthology any larger without having to charge over $20.00 for it, which is a sales-killer for a text book. So the original December 1st deadline is no longer valid. If you are still planning to submit a story by December 1st but you haven’t yet, sorry but it’s Too Late.
I’ve got a call for submissions going on at the moment for a horror and science fiction literary zine called The Haunted Traveler. It’s a small lit mag that tries to publish twice a year. Two issues have been released so far and can be read online for free through our website, or a physical copy can be purchased through the Weasel Press store. We accept a wide variety of Horror and Science Fiction, but we do have some preferences. Please note that we do accept werewolf and vampire stories, but we like our monsters to be monsters and not gloomy romantic heroes. Overall we value well written material. The Haunted Traveler is accepting short fiction, short scenes from plays or scripts, and artwork and photography. We are not solely a furry magazine, but we welcome furry submissions. Although we are a non-paying venue we do ensure that a printed copy and a PDF copy is sent out to all contributors upon release and when the funds have been settled. Submission details can be found at our website:

Weasel Press is releasing a Furry anthology called Typewriter Emergencies and it is currently calling for intense psychological dramas in which characters have to overcome some harsh realities. I’m looking for dark and existential fiction focusing around the theme of “These Things Shall Pass/It’s a mad world out there.” There’s a wealth of things that fit but some examples of what I’m looking for in this anthology would be Bullying, Sexuality, domestic violence, drug abuse, poverty/homelessness, anxiety. We’re looking for situations that would cause intense psychological strife. We are looking for stories featuring anthropomorphic animal characters (aka humanized animals) following the theme. Fiction not containing any of the elements we are asking for will not be reviewed.
I suppose you could say there’s a love affair between Weasel Press and the Bukowski’s or Hubert Selby Jr.'s of the world, and that’s essentially what I would like to see in this submission call; furry versions of heavy existential fiction. If you need examples of things to read, feel free to shoot me an email.
Ratings PG-R are accepted. Adult and Sexual themes are allowed, however excessive gore and sex is not. Pretty much, if it’s related or crucial to your story then it is fine. If it has nothing to do with your story then it’s probably not going to be accepted.
Authors accepted into Typewriter Emergencies will be paid a flat rate of $20 for their story and will receive a free copy of the anthology when it is released. Payments will be made through paypal (Weasel Press will pay the fees for using paypal, if any). If another method is needed, let me know and we can work it out. Multiple submissions are accepted, however it is asked that you keep it under 3 submissions. Simultaneous submissions are accepted, but the author is required to inform us if it has been accepted elsewhere. Submissions must not contain any copyrighted characters that the author does not hold the copyright to. Any submissions featuring minors in sexual situations will be rejected.
This is the first furry anthology I’m doing. If things go well I hope to do another with a different theme. Feel free to email with any questions or concerns.
What rights are we asking for? We are asking for exclusive publication rights for print and ebook purposes for a period of one year from the time of publication date. After the one year period we ask for Non-Exclusive publication rights in perpetuity.
I stumbled upon this but it looks like Rabbit Valley has opened submissions for Trick or Treat 3. Deadline is June 1st.
Details on their website here: https://www.rabbitvalley.com/sales/Submissions_Trick-or-Treat.html
This year, we’re looking do a celebration of, well, modern celebrations. As the previous year, we did a brief tour through Halloweens of the past, this year we want tales that specifically focus on and draw inspiration from all the trappings and motifs of people celebrating contemporary Halloween of the last couple decades. Give me tales of pranks gone wrong (or very right). The supernatural mingling with modern technology and observances of Halloween. A nice current take on a tale of trick-or-treating terror. Scares or sensuality at a costumed bash. Or of course, new terrors that mingle with time-honored traditions that still live like jack-o’-lanterns and local haunted houses. Plumb all the possible depths of current Halloween celebrations.
Another Mephit FurMeet staff member posted the following:
The Mephit Fur Meet 2015 Conbook is seeking artwork and short stories and/or poetry based on the theme "Steampunk Skunk"As thanks for your contribution, a link to your website of choice will be listed next to your name in the credits section of the Conbook (as long as the website doesn’t break any rules in the code of conduct that is).
Artwork should be either 5"x7" or 5"x3.5" and will look best if it’s made in black and white.
If you are interested, please contact us at conbookmfm[at]gmail.com with your idea, questions, suggestion or finished work.
By submitting to the Conbook, you agree that Mephit Fur Meet may publish your work within its pages.
Deadline for all submitted works is August 1st.
Although there is no mention of story length, I would suggest trying to keep it under 1,500 words.
