Calls for submissions

This is not specifically furry, but may be of interest to FWG folk:

Pole to Pole Publishing is seeking original science fiction, fantasy and horror stories of 3,000-5,000 words (firm) to be published in the In a Cat’s Eye anthology, slated for publication October 2016.

“In a cat’s eye, all things belong to cats.” ~ English Proverb

Is it true that all things belong to cats, or do they just think so?
Will cats one day rule the world, or one day get their comeuppance?
Either way, we want to know about it.

Stories should be dark, and include a cat—which should be integral to the story.

Edition and Rights: In a Cat’s Eye will be published in electronic and trade paperback in English. We are asking for exclusive, worldwide rights to your work for both electronic and print for six months.

Payment: Payment is 2¢ per word for new fiction, paid at publication, via PayPal only. If you do not have a PayPal account, please do not submit your work.

Bonus Royalties Multiplier: If the anthology earns out, that is, recoups all up-front costs to produce, authors will receive a royalty-share payment based on word-length of their story, at six-months from date of publication.

Authors will receive one copy of both the electronic and trade paperback versions of the anthology.

Submission Procedures:

Submit stories through the Pole to Pole Publishing Submission Manager only: Submission Manager

In your cover letter, tell us your favorite cat quote and cat story.

All stories should be in standard manuscript form and in rich text format (.rtf) only.

In a Cat’s Eye is not accepting poetry. Please do not send poems.
Poetry will be deleted without a response.

No reprints.

We do accept simultaneous submissions, but not multiple submissions. Please send your best work. Only one story from each author will be considered.

If you’re not sure if your story is suitable, don’t query; please just go ahead and submit it and let our editors decide.

Deadline: August 30, 2016 (or until filled).

SHARKASAURUS!

Presented without comment

Ooh, thanks for finding this one, Husky! I never realized how many shark-related things I have written until I saw this. Ha ha! Gotta write more dinosaur things though.

The deadline is coming up, but if you know someone who likes writing stories with animals in them, it might be of interest to them.

The well-respected Book Smugglers blog is looking for stories on the theme of Gods and Monsters, to be published online and in an ebook anthology:

Werewolves Versus issue 4!

Per their tweet here, the theme was announced on the Ugly Werewolf podcast: https://twitter.com/WerewolfNews/status/778064813440192512

I’ll save you a click, the theme is Space.

From their About page: http://werewolvesversus.com/about

WEREWOLVES VERSUS is a twice-yearly ‘zine that pits werewolves against a different physical, cultural or ideological foe each issue. Werewolves might be up against Christmas, food, 1950s Americana, fashion or professional sports.

WEREWOLVES VERSUS issues are available as pay-what-you want digital downloads via Gumroad. We are exploring a physical option for future issues.

WEREWOLVES VERSUS accepts, comics, prose, poetry, lists, collages, and every other type of submission, provided it can fit on one or more pages. If you would like to be notified when the next issue starts accepting contributions, sign up here.

I discovered this webzine just recently with issue 3, Werewolves Versus Music, and immediately went back and bought the first two issues.

I’d love to see some furry writers getting in on this.

Here’s the submissions info and payment from the prior issue: http://werewolvesversus.com/terms Deadline mentioned on the podcast is January 2017, they didn’t give an exact date on the show.

Oh and more info form the prior issue with important info: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1utHLcZ42KdAdl1kSWamcC--UOAa2AlKJmCwnCZPhqYw/edit#=

They’ll post more info on submissions when they officially announce the theme next Monday. Awoooo!

Humans Wanted:

Science fiction; deadline December 31st.

I am looking for stories that show diverse humanity in a positive light, as useful contributors to the universe. I want humans who build relationships and forge new paths, not humans that destroy or devastate those they meet. Submit stories with strong characters in positive stories that portray humans as useful and generally helpful to the universe. Diversity is encouraged.

…so, what if the people wanting the humans are furry?

The Beagle Freedom Project

http://www.thewritingpiazza.com/blog/call-for-submissions/

Admin and Legal The editors reserve the right to make or suggest changes to chosen manuscripts. Contributors will have to sign a contract granting Writing Piazza Press permission to use their work in the anthology, so if you are not 18 years of age you will need a parent or legal guardian’s permission, if your work is chosen.

Payment
Contributors will receive $25 and a digital contributor’s copy. All net profits from the book will go to the BFP (or a similar 501©(3) organization should BFP cease to operate as a non-profit). So part of your “payment” will be helping all those helpless animals!

What we want
We are looking for intriguing stories centered on animals that at some point were used in animal testing. We prefer stories that end in a rescue. So put on those thinking caps, and don’t be afraid to think outside the box. Genre is open: horror, sci-fi, speculative, literary, even comedy or romance. If it’s well-crafted and follows the theme, we’d love to consider it.

Guidelines
The stories should fall between 5,000 – 20,000 words. We will consider shorter stories if they are truly captivating. We will consider multiple submissions if they are substantially different, and we’re fine with simultaneous submissions. Just be sure to notify us immediately if your work is accepted elsewhere.

Winners will be notified by email so make sure to include your name and email address on the attached submission.

Send submissions and any questions to thewritingpiazza@gmail.com with “BFP Short Story Contest” in the subject. You can attach a Word or PDF document, or you can copy and paste your entry directly into the body of the email.

Submissions will be open through December 20th, 2016 at 11:59 PST. The project publication date is Spring, 2017.

Happy writing!

Beauty & the Beast erotica anthology, Circlet Press

Call for Submissions: A Beastly Affair (Beauty and the Beast Anthology) edited by J. Blackmore

Deadline: January 15, 2017

Beauty and the Beast might be the most erotic of all fairy tales. It’s about the confluence of fear and desire. It’s about the terrifying transformations that can occur when you are drawn inexorably to another. And it’s about the transcendence of self that can come from an act of love. It seems sad that there aren’t more erotic versions of this tale, and we at Circlet Press aim to fix that! We’d like erotic stories inspired by BatB, and we’re not picky about gender/sexuality/number of protagonists. Please note, however, that while shifters are fine, bestiality is not. We are all about consensual sex here.

Submission Details:

Length: Our preferred length is approximately 3,000 to 7,000 words, but we will consider the range from 2,000 to 8,000 words.

How to Submit: All submissions must be made via email to J. Blackmore, editor, at msjblackmore@gmail.com.

Submissions sent to other addresses/other editors at Circlet Press will not be considered. Standard manuscript formatting rules apply even though sending as an attachment (MS Word .doc or .rtf preferred). Please note that this means your name, address, and email contact must appear on the manuscript itself and not simply in your email message. (If you’re not sure what standard short story submission format should look like, Google is your friend.)

No simultaneous submissions (that is, don’t also send your story elsewhere at the same time, and don’t send it to multiple Circlet editors, either), and no multiple submissions to the same book. One story per author per anthology.

All stories must include explicit sexuality and erotic focus. Romantic content is welcome, but in a short story remember to keep the details on the action and its effects on the main character’s internal point of view. We favor a strong, singular narrative voice (no “head hopping” or swapping between different character’s points of view within a scene). For more details on our editorial preferences, see the general submission guidelines on circlet.com. We highly recommend reading the guidelines, especially the “do not send” list, to increase your chances of sending us something we’ll love. Try to avoid cliches. Fresh and direct language is preferred to overly euphemistic. Sex-positive, please, no rape/nonconsensuality/necrophilia or other purposefully gross topics.

Originals only, no reprints. We purchase first rights for inclusion in the ebook anthology for $25, with the additional rights to a print edition later which would also be paid $25 if a print edition happens. Authors retain the rights to the individual stories; Circlet exercises rights to the anthology as a whole.

Just found this call for submission: Fire: Elemental Anthology. Not specifically furry, but looks very furry friendly (dragons, salamanders, phoenixes, etc)!

http://tychebooks.com/fire/?platform=hootsuite

Fire: Elemental Anthologies #1

Tyche Books and Rhonda Parrish are proud to announce a brand new elemental anthology series, and to kick things off they are opening to submissions for the first anthology in the series—Fire: Demons, Dragons and Djinns.

The ability for people to control (to some extent at least) fire has long been held as one of the major events that contributed to human evolution, but when fire eludes or escapes our control it is also one of the most destructive forces on earth. Associated with passion, power, transformation and purification, fire is a ferocious element with an unquenchable appetite.

We want to explore the many facets of this beautifully furious element and the creatures associated with it so Fire: Demons, Dragons and Djinns will be filled with stories about every kind of fiery creature you can imagine, not only those listed in the subtitle. We’re looking for phoenixes, ifrits, salamanders, lava monsters and fiery beasts no one has ever heard of before. And of course this anthology will not be complete without at least one demon, dragon, and djinn!

Rights and compensation: Payment: Flat fee of $50.00 CAD and a paperback copy of the anthology. In exchange we are seeking first world rights in English and exclusive right to publish in print and electronic format for six months after publication date, after which publisher retains nonexclusive right to continue to publish for the life of the anthology.

Open submission period: June 1, 2017 – August 15, 2017

Length: Under 7,500 words

This sci-fi market is particularly interested in dinosaur stories right now: http://www.capricioussf.org/submissions/

Sincere there’s probably not enough people on the forums who actually plays Blackgate, I’ll put the submission call here. Goal Publications is seeking submission for a Blackgate fan anthology.

Blackgate: What Happens Next?

Theme: This is a fan anthology for Blackgate, a visual novel for adults only (www.patreon.com/blackgategame)
Managing Editor: Sean Gerace (AnthroAquatic)
Associate Editor(s): Jonathan Fini (Bane)
Submission Timeline: Submissions open from January 15th, 2017 thru April 15th, 2017
Publication Timeline: To be published in time for Anthrocon
Rights Requested: Nonexclusive rights in perpetuity for sales of digital and print versions
Payment: A physical copy of the anthology (limited edition, expecting only 100 copies or so to be printed)

We want short stories from 6,000-12,000 words where you take the story of Blackgate as it is now and tell the rest of the story. You story can involve any of the current characters from the VN, whether it’s the human protagonist or any of the current townspeople, or it can revolve around an new character (an unknown townsperson, if you will). We ask for no blatant self-insertion (make your character believable to the universe).

While there is adult content in the VN, we ask that submissions focus on telling the rest of the story, not be a way to bed your favorite husbando. Romance may exist, but on-screen sexual encounters may not.

We’re not asking you to try and tell what will actually happen at the end of Blackgate (though we certainly won’t turn away those stories). As long as we can feasibly connect the dots from Point A (where the story is now) to Point B (your ending), you can be, and we encourage you to be, as creative as you want.

To submit your stories, please send them to BlackgateAnthology[at]anthroaquatic.com and follow the below guidelines:

• Stories should be submitted in a .doc, .docx, or .rtf format
• Font should be Times New Roman or Arial, 12pt, single-spaced
• Format subject lines to say “Submission - [STORY TITLE] - [STORY AUTHOR]”
• In your email, give a short (three-five sentence) summary of the story, as well as a couple of sentences about yourself and your writing expereince (if any)

This is not specifically furry, but is totally amenable to having furries within it: http://post-self.io

Post-Self is a collaborative fiction project designed to explore the implications of a universe where the sense of self can be blurred, split, or demolished through replication into instances. There is a description of the universe in which the stories take place and some shared characters which authors may use, and the existing entries posted from the creators involved in the project upon which to build.

Closing soon (Feb 1), but here’s a call for submissions about pets (which may be imaginary, mythical or otherwise weird):

Call for the Alternative Truths Anthology!

Alternative Truths Anthology is open for submissions on the post-election era. What does the future hold? Endless alternative facts? Brilliant leadership? Alien invasions? Zombies in the Whitehouse?
The submissions are not restricted to a political bent and may run the gamut from political satire to dystopian visions. The common theme is that the election, the transfer, and the future are some how part of the vision.
We are looking for well written visions of the post-election world in the near or far future. We are looking for thoughtful complete pieces that well demonstrate and inspire thoughts on the country.
We want to look past the stereotypes and find interesting visions of the adventure our country is embarking on. Good luck.
Submissions should be in standard manuscript format in either RTF, Doc, or Docx files. Queries are welcome complete stories are more welcome. Submissions should be made to Kionadad@aol.com.
Target lengths are 1500 to 7500 words.
Hate speech, gratuitous sex or violence is not our objective.
A face book group: Alternative Truth Anthology, is open to provide an ongoing status of the effort.
Editors, Bob Brown and Irene Radford
Payment is $.02/word.

Dang it Arara. You got me all excited for another anthology, but their deadline is 2/28/17.

… Might still try for it anyway.

If you have a fun idea for a supervillain and you like to torment yourself as much as I apparently do, there’s this “Supreme Archvillain Election” anthology I just found with a deadline of February 1 (see guidelines here: https://supremearchvillain.wordpress.com). Not specifically furry, but considering that it’s an indie supervillain book, I think they’d be open to nonhuman characters.

Werewolves Versus Fascism:

E-zine. All profits to ACLU.

You beat me to it! Such an exciting market!
