Furry Writers' Guild Forum

Who, me?

Another latecomer to the forums. So here I am, trying to get at least a little more involved in FWG as I work on getting more consistent in my writers discipline - to make writing a daily habit and stick to it and to submit more works for publication.

At this time I have two conbook stories to my credit, Lunch and a Fill-Up (for MFF 2011) and Blushing Skunk, Missing Dragon (for MFM 2012). Both are now available on my SF and FA accounts. I also have one story to my credit in a FurPlanet anthology but it’s under a different pen name that I’m not prepared to publicly disclose is also me (if you’re curious, send me a PM and I might tell you). I have various other works under both identities that have been posted to these accounts and others, including a novel-length SabrinaVerse story entitled On Location.

What else? I got hooked on Lion King in 1995 and my earliest works are fanfics of that story. After about 3 years that interest faded as I shifted to furry fandom, whereupon I read tons of furry literature, much of it published but some of it online. I’m on registration staff at both Mephit FurMeet and Midwest Furfest, and a sometimes admin on both WikiFur and Flayrah.

Welcome to the active side of the forums! Look forward to seeing you around more.

Hi there! (Ah, yes, Lion King – one of the major furry gateway drugs of the '90s.)

How’s Mephit these days? My husband and I enjoyed attending it for a few years but haven’t been since 2006 (before it moved out of Memphis – a shame, because I loved going to the Memphis Zoo).

Welcome! I hope to get a chance to talk with you sometime, perhaps on the shoutbox or in a thread. Could you link your various accounts so those of us curious can go take a look at your work?

I think Mephit Furmeet is better than ever in terms of how well run it is, the programming (including the writing track!), and ability to relax, have fun, and catch up with friends. Attendance is down somewhat from its peak a few years ago, a trend we hope to turn around (though it might not happen this year since it lands on the same weekend as IndyFurCon). It also seems to be a favorite of the greymuzzles - I think more than half the attendees are over 30, in contrast to other furry cons where you see large herds of late teens and early 20s. And even though the new venue (since 2010) is across the Mississippi state line, it’s still in the greater Memphis area and if you were able to work in a visit to the Memphis Zoo before you should still be able to.

You can find me on FA at http://www.furaffinity.net/user/mwalimu/ or on SoFUrry at http://mwalimu.sofurry.com/. I also have pages on Inkbunny and Weasyl but I haven’t uploaded much of anything to them. Also have a personal webpage which I haven’t updated in a couple of years but it has some older works that aren’t on the other sites.

Welcome! I also kicked off my furry writing career (and my furry career in general) with TLK, after seeing the musical in 2002. (The film was cute but didn’t make a huge impression…the musical, however, oh my GOD.)

Welcome to the forums!

Hi! Love your icon. Nice to meet a feline cousin

I hear ya on the writing discipline. I can blame most of it on Life Getting in the Way --but that’s no excuse, right?

It sounds like you’re super active in the fandom and I look forward to getting to know you!

Now that I look at it, I actually remember reading “Prey Upon the Spirit” years ago, and thinking it was an interesting angle.

Wow! It seems like a lifetime ago that I wrote that story.
