The Notebook Project (NoBoPro)

For my fellow longhand/notebook enthusiasts. Found out about this today from the Paperblanks blog – it’s a challenge to fill a journal (any size, any type, your choice) cover to cover during the month of November, with whatever you want – fiction, poetry, journaling, art, quotes, etc.

I’m already doing Codex’s novella contest in November, so I can’t commit to anything else, but it sounds like fun. Maybe I’ll do this as a personal challenge some other month. (Or maybe I’ll just pick out one of my tiny pocket-sized journals… hmm…)

Oooh! This sounds like a lot of fun! I’ll head to the nearest CVS and pick one up. This sounds exciting to do! I’ve been keeping a regular daily journal on Evernote but doing one on paper sounds just as good.

Looks like fun! I compose by longhand to begin with, and I am doing NaNoWriMo this year, so this might happen for me even unintentionally. But maybe I will make an extra effort to fill up another journal. I like the idea of just having a book to fill with mental doodles and musings.

Here’s my journal for the month (quarter for size comparison). The back cover says it’s handmade and letterpress printed at St. Brigid Press, Afton VA, and it was one of my last purchases at the Stone Soup indie/used bookstore in my old hometown (the only physical bookstore so far to carry any of my books) before they closed.

Resurrecting this because it looks like a great idea for any month, if only to spur on inspiration. You never know what sort of thought-vomit might turn into an amazing story, poem, or visual art <3 I think I’ll try to tackle it during my birth month, May.

Resurrecting the thread to note that this is happening again for 2016.

This time around, I’m pushing a bit more and will be attempting to fill a Baron Fig Confidant.

I think this makes a great NaNoWriMo alternative – a creative challenge that doesn’t involve word count and can include art and other non-text material. Or you could do it alongside NaNo, if you didn’t mind handwriting your novel (and yes, I’ve done that too).

NaNoWriMo has always been too much for me. I don’t think I could write 40k words on one subject. But this… This I might be able to do.

I’ve been stuck at the desk for the past couple of days while at work. No idea how much longer this will go on, but it seems like as good of a time as any to start this project since things have been crazy this year.

Wound up filling roughly 40% of my notebook during November. Late start + post-election depression pretty much killed it for me, but aiming for having it filled by the end of this month now.
