SPECIES Series Introduction

Thurston Howl Publications is starting its new furry series, SPECIES.

Each volume will focus on a particular species (or species group) and will consist of three separate sections: folktales and myths, previously published stories, and new original stories. We will try to publish three volumes a year, with 2017’s volumes being Wolves, Foxes, and Tigers (see the individual posts for their respective guidelines and deadlines).

We look forward to seeing everyone’s contributions in the future, and, as THP continues to grow, we hope that our readership is consistently pleased with the literature we provide.

None of these markets’ submissions guidelines seem to mention their pay rate. What do these markets pay?

If I remember right from Slack, it just pays a contributor copy of the finished product.

Yes, that is correct. The payment for each one just shows the free contributor’s copy. Until THP grows more in readership, we cannot offer more at this time. Perhaps the payment will change in the future, maybe even before some of those volumes’ deadlines. However, at this time, we cannot offer more.

When you say “anthro” or “furry” for these anthologies, does that require a fox in blue jeans on a motorcycle, or will you accept other definitions of those terms- like a “normal” (seemingly) fox who is a human’s pet but thinks humanish thoughts, or a fox who gets turned into a person? From your descriptions in the postings, it sounds like the latter are also okay, but I’m just double-checking. Thanks!

Absolutely! Feel free to go for it.
