Hello.
I’m not that great at introductions, being somewhat of a shy, introverted type, and often too serious by far, but I’ll do my best!
I’m Field, a harvest mouse. (Golden fur, prehensile, ropy tail, and all manner of cuteness.) Been writing on my own for a good twenty years, now. Ten of those in the ‘furry’ realm. Never been published or anything, but still! I find I average a story a month these days. I try to stay regularly active at it, even though it’s more in the category of hobby/interest than anything loftier, and it can get eclipsed by work and everyday distractions.
I post most of my writing at So Furry (where I’ve been a member for a decade, now, back to when it had a different title) under the username ‘Squirrel’ - http://squirrel.sofurry.com
Most of the stories I write are romantic, admittedly. I’m inspired a lot by screwball romances (which date back to the 1930’s, with ‘It Happened One Night,’ 'The Awful Truth, ‘Bringing Up Baby,’ and into the 40’s with ‘His Girl Friday’ and such). That is to say, romances that involve a lot of back-and-forth, witty banter, with the female often being the dominant personality, and where the conversation between characters is an act of foreplay. These stories also have a French New Wave feel, where you sorta pop in, observe, and pull out. Almost voyeuristic slices of life.
I’ve also tried my paw at some serialized sci-fi stories, which are a bit heavier, plot-wise. Really enjoy the universe-building that allows.
So, I definitely have things I like to write, and themes/genres I write more often, but I like to think I’m versatile. Or can be.
My work tends to be dialogue-heavy, as stated. I feel I struggle with the more descriptive aspects. My style is quite odd, perhaps off-putting, as I sometimes switch between third and first person and back again with no warning. Use a lot of broken, fragmented sentences. So, I guess my writing is an acquired taste, but …
Ultimately, I guess I’ve joined this forum here to broaden my perspective, writing-wise, and become a little more engaged in the wider furry writing community. Or at least keep aware of it. I sometimes worry I isolate myself from other writers/artists. I don’t know how active I’ll be in the long run, but I want to see if I can stem that tide a little bit.
