ROAR 7

For anyone who wants to get started early, here’s a look at the guidelines for ROAR 7 – the theme is “legend”:

When is it likely to close?

February 1st, according to the blurb. Plenty of time! (OR IS IT)

Have a couple of vague ideas already that might work for this!

I completely missed the mention of Feb; thanks Ryffnah.

Ooooh, I am all about this theme!

Thanks for the heads-up. I’ve already got some ideas.

Ooo I wonder if I could rework “Emeralds, Sapphires, and Sorcery” for this >.> I’ll see what I can do and send it off early to be safe. Think I might just need to furry it up a bit more to make it acceptable.

Oh, I have a story that will be perfect for this! Just finished it yesterday  After I clean it up I’ll send it in.

One question - in the link it says submissions will be open later in the summer but in the next paragraph it has an email address to send submissions to. Does that mean I can send it in now or do I need to wait for that unspecified future date?

You’re going to want to wait until submissions are stated to be open. It’s not unusual for the information to be set up early so folks can start prepping for it, thus allowing more the chance that the bulk of submissions won’t be put in just before the deadline.

I have a couple of ideas for this one. I think I’ll give it a shot.

ROAR 7 will open to submissions in two weeks – on August 1st!

Here are the guidelines again: http://marylowd.com/ROAR-7-Submission-Call.html

ROAR 7 is open for submissions!

I’ve made a few minor changes to the ROAR 7 submission guidelines.

Basically, I’m not making people query for multiple submissions or reprints any more.

Hmm. I have too many stories that fit this theme. Would you rather read about Pegasus assuming human form, a hunting dog going against his nature to save a unicorn, a moon-fox, a sword-wielding veterinarian, a romance between a star-wolf and an owl, or a teenager from a garage band who turns into a dragon? I wonder…

Ooh, fun choices! I do take multiple submissions, so you can send me more than one. From that list, I have to say that the hunting dog and star-wolf/owl sound most intriguing – partly because “moon-fox” only implies character and not plot, and the others sound like they have a larger human component – which might be fine, but I got some submissions to ROAR 6 that were kind of borderline about whether they were actually furry, and that’s (obviously) more likely to happen in stories with humans. However, that said, ROAR 6 ended up with three transformation stories in it, and they were delightful additions. So, I’m not opposed to stories with humans, as long as they still feel like furry stories.

Basically, I can’t really tell from a three word pitch which story will fit best, but I would be happy to see a submission (or a couple) from you.

Thanks for your input! I know you said two or three stories is okay, so I’ve been thinking about how to winnow the pool down to that number. This gives me a better idea of what to send.

Ryffnah,
Just sent in my second submission.

Everything that was submitted to ROAR 7 before December 1st has now received a preliminary response.

There’s only one month left to submit to ROAR 7!

With ten days until the deadline, ROAR 7 has received 50 submissions, adding up to nearly 250k words of fiction.
