Furry Writers' Guild Forum

Live Long and Prosper

Hi everyone,

I’m Mary, and I found the furry fandom in 2010 after self-publishing my novel, Otters In Space. First I found my way to Furtopia, and from there I found out about Rainfurrest. When I got to Rainfurrest, I was shocked and delighted to discover that the furry fandom hosted its own tiny ecosystem of writers, publishers, and writing groups like the FWG. See, all I wanted to read when I was a kid was books about talking animals, but around the age of thirteen, I tired of reading the eight or so Brian Jacques books I owned over and over again. I was too early for Erin Hunter or various other mainstream young adult furry books that have popped up since then, so, with a big sigh, I moved onto science-fiction. I like a lot of science-fiction, but I never felt like I quite fit with the genre. I mean, I love spaceships, space stations, space elevators… there’s a trend here… but, the talking cats, dogs, and otters kind of stood out as different. Everything changed when I heard Phil Geusz read a short story of his about a rabbit on a spaceship during Rainfurrest.

Anyway, that’s the long way to say that I’m a furry writer, and I love it here.

I’ve had a bunch of short stories published, and FurPlanet carries my two novels – Otters In Space and Otters In Space 2: Jupiter, Deadly. For more information about my fiction, you can check out my webpage: www.marylowd.com.

Really looking forward to reading your works, personally. They’re on my list to get to  They caught my eye a long time ago, as did the cover art.

Doc Marcus did an amazing job on the cover art.

Wow, I didn’t know you didn’t find furry until after writing Otters In Space! Glad you made it
