Well…maybe…not really…
Hi! I’m Pepper! I’m a writer. It’s all I’ve done my whole life. I’ve been writing silly stories since I was eight, so that’s eighteen years now. But, looking at you guys, you all look like you’re way ahead of me as writers. A lot of the people in the intro section have talked about how they’ve been published and they’ve got amazing jobs in the writing and editing industry. You people put me to shame. All I’ve got is a silly website with my stories on it (A status I have lovingly refered to my parents as “self publishing”), and I use FA way more than that now anyway. While I am trying to get published in the world of academic writing (with a paper I have been sitting on since I graduated and another one I must complete in the fall to get my masters degree), I’m nothing to write home about. I’m almost embarrassed to be here.
Anyway, since almost all I do with my life is write, a good way to understand who I am is to understand why I started writing in the first place. The reason I became a writer is because one day in grade school, the nuns forced us all to go to the library and I couldn’t find a single book in the whole establishment that I liked. So I sat down and I wrote my magnum opus: “Attack of the Killer Furbies” (SFW link goes to FA). It was a smash hit among my third grade class, because you see, I had terrible handwriting and nobody but me could read it, but it had awesome pictures of plastic army men beating the crap out of evil satanic furbies.
The next story I wrote was “Peppermint in Wonderland,” where I went to the whimsical world of Lewis Carroll and proceeded to kick everybody’s butt and be generally awesome on an adventure through what amounted to an ten year old’s fever dream. And for some reason I was a magic digimon and I had a plucky sidekick that looked like pommy from “Bomberman 64: The second attack” who was generally a super cool best friend. Eventually, I saved the world from evil bad guys just like Captain Planet! But at the very end it was a bit of a dark story because the bad guys actually destroy the planet and I have to put it back together in the sequel.
Recently I’ve focused on writing short non-ficiton (or very close to non-fiction) novellas involving people I’ve met in the furry fandom in the nine years I’ve been associated with it. I also have started taking my writing to people’s ears as a storyteller. I run a stream every Friday and Sunday at 7:30 EST to around 8:30 EST where I tell stories I’ve written and other stories I’ve always wanted to read (my most recent reading was the hobbit and I’m now in the process of telling a story I wrote a year or two ago). I love the concept of radio and I’m really trying to bring my writing to life using this interesting medium. If you’d like to listen, you can see a link to my show in my signature.
I really hope to meet interesting people here and I hope I can be helpful to aspiring writers, inspiring to veteran writers, and a generally nice person to be around.
