Furry Writers' Guild Forum

Hello!

Hello! Just started with this forum. I’m Kris, looking to improve my skills and get professionally published. My first two novels are on sale on Amazon: “Everyone’s Island” (SF, through a small press) and “Striking the Root” (fantasy, self-pub), and I’ve just finished draft two of a hard SF novel called “Thousand Tales” thanks to rolling a critical success at National Novel Writing Month. I’m looking to keep editing that one and get it beta-read. Meanwhile I’ve got stories up on DeviantArt and I post more stories to the TSA-Talk mailing list.

I also program. Did some AI work years ago in Python, and I’d like to get back into that. Have also been re-learning the Unity game engine lately.

Welcome!

Hi and welcome!

Greetings, welcome. I think you’ve come to the right place.

Hello and welcome to the forums! That’s awesome that you made the most of NaNoWriMo- not an easy thing to do in and of itself. I hope you’ll find the resources and support here useful to your future endeavors

Hello
Browsed your stuff on Amazon, very cool premises!

Hello Kris! Nice to see you here!

Hah! We meet again!

Welcome to the forums!
I’ll have to check out your books.

Great to see you here, Kris! Hope you enjoy our little asylum.

What is “beta-read”?

It’s when you have a friend and/or fellow writer read your work and offer suggestions and criticism. Less professional than an editor, more of a peer review, and a good stage to go through before you think about submitting your work to an editor, publisher or literary agent.

It’s also good if you’re looking for specific things, such as how the characters gel within the story, if they’re fleshed out enough, if the story has an interesting plot, if the ending is fulfilling enough, overall feel from the story, etc and so forth. It’s also nice having the second set of eyes for typos or run-on/fragment sentences :3
