Since retailers are starting their holiday/Black Friday deals early, both Amazon and Staples have the basic e-ink Kindle model available now for just $49 (list price $79). Might be a good deal for someone looking to get into ebooks who wants a display that’s easier on the eyes than the screens of tablets and smartphones.
I’ve got my eye on that Kindle Voyage one of these days, but for now my basic model is still holding up well even with heavy use for going on 4 years. 
(I have one that’s discontinued now, that was new for holiday 2011 - still has buttons on the side instead of a touch screen.)
