Thurston Howl Publications is now accepting submissions for volume two of its furry Tarot-themed anthology series Arcana: Coins and Claws, edited by Hypetaph.
Deadline: March 1st, 2018
Word count: 2,500-8,000; a little above and a little below will be acceptable
Rating: PG-13
When submitting, please put ARCANA as the subject.
Tarot and the arcane have always been topics of wonder: mysticism is often a point of intrigue for those unsure, and knowing one’s future and fortune is typically preferable to the unknown. The suit of merchants and material, of earth and wealth, coins represent one’s desires and and belongings, as well as the self; while reversed can mean greed, overindulgence, or focus to a fault.
In Arcana: Coins and Claws, we ask that you draw from this desire and uncertainty in your stories. Unlike our Major Arcana project, you will not be asked to submit to a certain card. Instead, we will be accepting fourteen (14) submissions—the amount in a suit. However, we do ask that you draw from the general theme of any card or cards of your choosing (https://www.biddytarot.com/tarot-card-meanings/minor-arcana/suit-of-pentacles/ is a good supplement for anyone needing inspiration for the theme). All stories are expected to be furry in nature.
You can submit up to three stories, but we will only accept one per author (if any).
(Reprints do not count in the total).
Reprints are encouraged, but you have to own full permission of the work in order for us to consider it.
We will not accept simultaneous submissions.
Payment: Authors will receive a free copy of the print book.
Send submissions in .doc or .docx format to Hype at Hypetaph.thurstonhowlpub@gmail.com
If you are sending more than one submission, send multiple emails instead of putting them all in one.
We will inform all authors regarding decisions within a week or two after the
deadline.
The book’s tentative release date will be in July.
