Tales from the Guild, Volume I: Music to Your Ears

Because we’re still working out some of the details, I’d rather not say who it is QUITE yet. Not like there are many choices, though.

I’m looking to have the editing and interior illustrations for this done by the end of April and hoping for the release to be mid-late May. That’s a very loose timeline though so we’ll see what happens. I’ll be keeping everyone up to date.

My understanding from watching how FurPlanet handles Otters In Space is that it’s good to launch books at conventions, especially at big conventions. So, if it were done by mid- to late May, it could be released at AnthroCon. Just a thought.

That was a thought I’d had, though that would be over a month for it to just sit and wait for release. May look into doing a soft release then advertising it at AC. Would be nice if it was being released at a convention I could go to, but that’s not going to happen =p

If there’s a wait between publication and launch, maybe get some review copies out there?

I’ll think about it. With the exception of the cover art, this entire project (including interior illustrations) is coming out of my pocket. I may do a contest or something and give away one copy. This is also not counting the contributor copies.

One I can get the publisher details ironed out then I think we can get some more definite ideas out there, such as an exact release date, pre-orders, and other things.

So when does volume 2 open for submissions?

We’re getting volume 1 released first, and will see how that does and go from there. Right now, more anthologies are on my list entitled “Future Projects.”

I should have a definitive date for Volume I in the next week, hopefully. I would love to be a part of Volume II, as well, but we’ll see how that goes.

So yeah, look forward to Volume I!

Honestly, the other thing I should say is, if you want there to be a Volume II of any kind, please purchase Volume I. I simply don’t have the funds available to pay for an anthology out of my pocket, so the funding will have to come either from profits from Vol I or from donations. So when I say, we’ll have to see how it does, what I really mean is, “we’ll have to see how it sells.”

We can talk about this in private at some point. May have some additional information I can provide on this.

There is always Kickstarter  People might feel jaded about Kickstarter but it DOES work, and anthologies are especially popular if people know that the existence of the anthology gives them a place to submit work. Happy to provide any insight if you want to go that route!

That is a good thought, but offhand I don’t think I’d want to go the Kickstarter route with a guild anthology. I’ll keep it in mind, though, and re-evaluate after the first volume is out and I have a chance to really start considering future ones.

If you’re talking crowd-funding, I highly recommend setting up one with flexbile funding. Otherwise you only get the money pledged if you reach your goal, where-as flexible funding allows you to get it no matter what. As for websites, indiegogo seems to be better as (at least in my experience) it charges you immediately for flexible funding projects.

Who sells it? I don’t recall seeing it available from any of the dealers at Anthrocon who were selling books. (Admittedly I wasn’t looking that hard and even if I had found it, there were way too many books I would like to have bought for my limited funds.)

It hasn’t been released yet. I believe it should come out soon though.

I should have a release date from Rabbit Valley any day now.
