When/if you send out that e-mail, Sean, consider asking folks why they’re not participating much? So, like, we want to know what to do to get more activity, so ask people to give honest explanations of what keeps them from being active. One possible option is that the number of actual professional writers in the fandom is a vanishingly small number, and the rest of us are either on-again off-again writers like me or don’t give a damn about publication and just upload whatever to FA or somewhere else they might have a fanbase. If that’s true, the FWG can’t be compared to something like the SFWA, at least not yet. But the solution would be as simple as finding all the people who have aspirations and letting them know about us. You know.
So what did the SFWA or SFWG or any of those other associations or guilds do to build themselves up, and can we try to replicate it within the fandom? The community is certainly smaller, but I’m guessing the demographic of furry writers isn’t much different than other genres (or whatever you want to call it).
